The Norwegian citizenship test (statsborgerprøven)
The statsborgerprøven has 36 tasks with three answer options each. Four are unscored trial tasks, so 32 count, and you need at least 24 correct to pass. You have at most 60 minutes. The test is digital and in Norwegian (bokmål or nynorsk).
Who must take it?
Applicants for Norwegian citizenship aged 18 to 67 must have passed either the citizenship test or the social studies test taken in Norwegian before they hand in the application to the police. If you passed the social studies test in another language, you must also pass the citizenship test. Source: UDI.
What is on the test?
The test draws on the curriculum in social studies for adult immigrants: education and working life, family, health and everyday life, and Norway past and present. Some tasks ask you to mark a spot in a picture. Our 13 study modules follow these topics, and every module has sample questions.
Where and how do you take it?
You register with a test centre run by a municipality or adult education centre. The test is digital. Results come with a certificate by post, normally within two weeks. There is no appeal, but you can complain about formal errors within three weeks (example: Bærum kommune).
