Privacy policy for the Hei Norge app
Short version: Hei Norge has no account, no ads and no analytics or tracking. Your study progress stays on your device. The only service that receives data from the app is RevenueCat, which handles subscription purchases together with Apple and Google.
Who is responsible
Hei Norge is published by the individual developer named on the App Store and Google Play listings of the app. That developer is the data controller for the limited data described below. This page covers the Hei Norge app for iPhone and Android. The website has its own short notice on the website privacy page.
What stays on your device
The app stores these things only on your phone, using the app's private storage:
- your chosen study language, goal (citizenship test, social studies test or both), and optional test date;
- your progress: finished sections, answers, mistakes, review schedule, streak, mock exam results, and a saved unfinished mock exam;
- settings such as sound, theme, daily reminder time, and a cached copy of your subscription status so the app works offline.
We never receive this data. It is not uploaded, and we cannot read it. You can delete it at any time: Settings, then Delete all progress, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes everything the app stored on the device.
Purchases and subscriptions (RevenueCat, Apple, Google)
Payments are handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your card or payment details, name or email address. To check which features you have unlocked, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. When the app starts, and when you open the paywall, buy or restore, RevenueCat receives:
- a random anonymous app user ID generated by RevenueCat (not linked to your name or email);
- your purchase receipt or purchase token and the resulting subscription status (product, dates, trial, renewal, cancellation);
- technical device information that RevenueCat's SDK collects, such as device type, operating system version, app version, language and region, and your IP address (used for fraud prevention and to show the right store prices);
- one flag the app sets itself (a "legacy buyer" marker) for people who bought the earlier paid version of the app on iPhone, so they keep access.
RevenueCat acts as our data processor. Its handling of data is described in the RevenueCat privacy policy. We use this data only to give you the premium features you paid for, to restore purchases, and to answer support requests about purchases. The legal basis is performing the contract with you (the purchase) and our legitimate interest in preventing fraud.
Apple and Google process your purchases and may collect their own data under their own privacy policies. We do not control that.
Notifications
The daily study reminder is optional and off until you turn it on. It is a local notification scheduled on your device. There is no push notification server and no notification token is sent anywhere. You can switch it off in Settings or in your phone's system settings.
What we do not do
- No account, login or email address is needed.
- No advertising, no ad networks, no advertising ID.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
- No sale or rental of data. No sharing for marketing.
- Listening to a section uses your phone's built-in text-to-speech. The Hei Norge app does not use the microphone and does not record audio.
- The app does not ask for your location, contacts, photos or camera.
Retention and deletion
On-device data is kept until you delete all progress or uninstall the app. Purchase records at RevenueCat are kept as long as needed to provide the service and to meet accounting and legal duties. Because the app has no account, the RevenueCat record is tied only to the anonymous app user ID. To have the RevenueCat record for your device deleted, contact us (see the support page) and tell us roughly when you bought; we may ask you to send the order number from your Apple or Google receipt so we can find it. Payment records held by Apple or Google are governed by their policies.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you, object to processing, and complain to the supervisory authority. In Norway that is Datatilsynet. Since we hold almost no data that identifies you, we may need your order number to find your record.
Children
The app is made for adults preparing for the Norwegian tests. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If the app starts to use data in a new way, we will update this page and the date below before the change ships. The version of this page at the link in the app is the current one.
